LA LADY
I recently attended a dinner at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in downtown Los Angeles (thank you very much League of Women Voters). It’s been a number of years since I’ve set foot in the grande dame and I’m kicking myself for the lapse.
If the walls of this 1923 gem could talk….whew! Hosting the Kennedys, the Beatles, countless Hollywood stars and starlets, the auberge has a history that is as overwhelming as its architecture and interiors.
They sure don’t build ‘em like they used to! The Spanish-Italian Renaissance-Beaux Arts design is a nod to the City of Angeles’ Castilian origins. The frescos, the gilding, the marble—there is almost more eye candy here than you can take in. But, do! Stop in to appreciate this homage to our city, and do linger for a libation in its Gallery Bar, and especially do peek in the Crystal Ballroom, the parasol-like chandeliers are crushingly gorgeous.
